Task Force Mulls English, Western Issues
If you speak English, does that mean you don't speak Western? If you're Western, why does English often make little sense to you? To explore the differences between the two dominant sectors of the Equine Trade Industry, the Western-English Trade Association is forming a task force of retailers, manufacturers and others from both to develop ways the two can work more closely together.
"This is a topic that has caused a lot of misunderstanding over the years and now it's time to bring the issues out in the open," said WETA President Gary Mandelbaum. "My inkling is that in the final estimation, we're going to find there isn't really that much different between the two sectors."
Nominations for those who would like to serve (you may nominate yourself) are being accepted. You do not have to be a WETA member to serve on the task force. Meetings will be held by conference call and through email. Committee members will be assigned to various research tasks among their peers. A final report on the task force's findings is planned in the spring.
"We will try to make it as simple as possible for those who want to participate," said WETA member services coordinator Paul Wahl. "We promise, no large amounts of homework!"
Volunteers or anyone with questions should contact WETA executive director Glenda Chipps or Wahl. Nominations will be accepted through the end of the year with the task force participants to be named in January.
